Nine years ago, eClub member Kim Covill co-founded From Books to Brilliance, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on the problem of illiteracy in rural communities.  Since its founding, they have completed 8 library projects to promote literacy in impoverished rural communities of Nicaragua, Guatemala and New Mexico, US.  The Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA has been a partner on some of these projects through our mini-grant program.

From Books to Brilliance was founded in recognition that children cannot develop literacy skills when there is no access to books.  All to often, the skills learned in a classroom cannot be practiced with there are no libraries or books at home.  From Books to Brilliance works with local partners to create lending libraries and reading initiatives in impoverished, rural communities.  By aligning with the community’s needs, they can bring the necessary resources to create spaces that can be sustained into the future.

GlobalGiving – the largest global crowdfunding community – recognized From Books to Brilliance with the 2016 GlobalGiving Badge.  This badge indicates that they were an active, approved, and vetted member of the GlobalGiving network.  Projects from vetted GlobalGiving members have gone through a rigorous due diligence review, satisfy IRS guidelines for international grant-making and tax deductibility, and follow Treasury Department guidelines for anti-terrorism.
