Program: Rotary Videos from YouTube
Speaker: various
Our normal program coordinator, Stephen Shearin, has been called away to care for his brother who is in the Intensive Care Unit in a hospital in Hawaii (currently his brother is stable), and Stephen has not been able to help complete uploading the program contents this week - many of our board members send their parts to Stephen to assemble for your viewing pleasure. I have stepped in to put some content online for the week and will be asking our Board to fill in the blanks over the next few days with regards to the President's Corner, Birthday's and Announcements, Sergeant at Arms, and the Rotary Minute.
In the mean time, please visit the four links below, and spend 30 to 60 minutes pondering (Google surfing is a great help there) how they can motivate you to be better Rotary members and how the videos can better your own life.
When you are done, please add a few comments regarding your thoughts of the program links.
We apologize for an abbreviated meeting, but as they say "life happens".
As always, our club is best able to carry out our Service Projects when you, our visitors, graciously donate to the club. Please consider the value of our presentation and consider donating what you would have spent on a meal at your normal club by donating via our Paypal link or sending a check to our postal address. Thank you in advance for your donations!

I loved the 4 youtube presentations.. Bill Gates & his foundation is giving another $255 million to Rotary International and expects Rotarians to donate another $100 million by 2012. Making Peace is Possible was very good and brought to mind the need for training young people specifically on how to create peace. Third one was D.K. Lee "Make Dreams Real" which is the new Rotary theme focusing on the children of the world. Last, the Rotary song in photos which I totally loved.

This was an interesting way to hear different messages--all worth while
Very inspirational! Loved the RVM clips. Found the Zig Ziglar video particularly inspiring.
I think it's great the Gates Foundation is participating with R.I. for PolioPlus. Having been around Rotary since 1984 I've watched this program grow and now can see the light at the end of the tunnel....we've work still to do but it's getting there...
I also found President (now president) Lee's comments to ring very true. With all we do, it's amazing how important water is to sustaining life....
The third video isn't really a video, it's a slide show, a bit out dated and not really a "Rotary" presentation...some nice phrases but a tad boring...
I found the Paul Harris 1933 Speech interesting. Since I'm in the media production business I've made something like 57 videos for Rotary (my club, club beneficiaries, etc) over the past 25 years...nice to see the "animation" touch with the spinning globe, even that long ago!
What great news from Bill Gates
What a great tool to use the Internet's social forums as a means of getting Rotary information out to millions of potential viewers.
Great meeting. As an incoming Vice-President and Program Director is was nice to see the impromptu program. It was refreshing to see others step up and great use of the resources so readily available but seldom used, at least by our club.

Our local club showed a youtube video regarding the polio plus program. I thought it was really effective. I posted the same link on my Facebook page and several friends clicked on the link and watched it. It's a great way to spread the word about Rotary's projects.
I was also really suprised to find out just how many videos are out there. Doing a general search on youtube, you'll find so many examples of Rotarians at work. Great PR!
This was a difficult format and probably should not be repeated
Foundational speech helps new members to hear the spirit of Rotary from it's founder.
Exciting to see a disease wiped out... makes me want to buy all of the Microsoft I can. Thanks Bill!
Interesting videos. I particularly enjoyed the video highlighing Paul Harris.
Thank You for an interesting meeting. I am here, because I am looking around in the Rotary world to find ideas and inspiration to my upcoming club presidency. My work makes me sit by a computor a lot, and I thin e-clubs are a very good way of making up and getting deeper in to Rotary. This meetings subject, the youtube videos particulary is interesting because I have not seen much use of it here in Finland. This is one thing I am going to bring to my club as a president.
Enjoyed the U Tube selections. Three recswusa members were in Hawaii at the same time taking care of friends & relatives. Mel & I were on North Shore Oahu with a friend spending time with her in her end of life care. What a gift to do this for a friend of over 50 years. Its always wonderful to go home again to Hawaii after living there. Aloha, Judy
An excellent solution for a program. These videos were especially effective in reminding us all that we are Rotary INTERNATIONAL.

Thank you for a great meeting! The imagination library sounds like a terrific project. We donate a book to our local school library each week. The youtube videos were wonderful. It was interesting to learn about the Gates increased commitment. I also especially liked the Paul Harris video and emailed a link to our club secretary. It would be a great video to show our club. I was not aware that so many great Rotary videos were on youtube. Thanks!

Video is a great communications element that captures the ideas, information, and emotion content of various presentations. Bill Gates address regarding polio eradication was encouraging and inspiring as he announced a total contribution of $355 million with $100 million being an added challenge grant.
Paul Harris’ 1933 radio address is an excellent opportunity to understand the idea and power of Rotary as explained by the founder himself. This should be made required viewing for all new Rotarians.
Zig Ziglar’s “Words of Wisdom” set to beautiful photos and music all made perfect sense and truly did motivate me to make inspirational quotations a part of each day. Our attitude of “Service Above Self” is inspirational and our commitment can be strengthened with similar positive ideas.
D.K. Lee’s “Make Dreams Real” talk set out Rotary’s theme for 2008-2009. The focus is on providing clean water, sanitation works, mosquito nets, vitamins, and education to help the children of the world.
Thank you.

I enjoyed the you-tube videos
I believe that video is an especially powerful medium for telling our stories, and that it will be the principal medium through which Rotary engages the next generation of Rotarians. I must also give my compliments to Don Kemplen for his work with Paul Harris' speech in the second video.
I hope it is not inappropriate for me to suggest that anyone interested try watching a two-part video (about ten minutes) on my nonprofit's site telling about a young man who decided to see if he might be able to give a water buffalo to a poor family in China. It's a video I'm very proud we are able to show, and one that I'm happy to share with my colleagues in (and out of) RECSWUSA.

Interesting videos
This collage was very interesting. Bill Gates is impressive because he is giving his great wealth to the poor through a variety of initiatives, including these grants to Rotary for polio eradication. I was surprised to hear Paul Harris, as early as 1933, state that, "Rotary stands for tolerance"; and that no racial, religious, or political categories are a barrier to membership. I wonder what he would have thought about Barack Obama's election to the presidency. Zig Ziglar's photos are a reminder to take time to see and appreciate the beauty of creation. D.K. Lee's emphasis on making dreams real for children renews my commitment to work for justice and peace for all marginalized people, especially children.

Thinking positive thoughts always seem to help get me through the day and benefit our clubs
An interesting selection of video clips. I was especially interested in those by Paul Harris, first Rotary president, and D. K. Lee, our current president.
Your apologies about the shortness of the program not withstanding, it took me over one half hour to complete the makeup, time well spent.
I hope that Mr. Shearin's brother is recovered and he is back with the club.

lots of great information. Thank you for providing the e-club format for makeups!
The Gates Foundation Announcement was both amazing & inspirational! I have no doubt that Rotarians will be able to meet the challenge of matching the new grant.
The Paul Harris speech of 1933, was also quite inspiring! I am glad to know that this exists! What a way to introduce potential new members to Rotary! Simply invite them to watch this video on YouTube!
