The Mortenson program was interesting. I want to read his book.
Your organization of the meeting is excellent; muchimproved from the early days.
I loved Mortensen's comments on educating a girl and you educate a whole community. Very, very insightful ... and appro po
Love the perspective on educating women in that culture. The three cups of Tea is a great thought for all of life.
What a great vision this man had! I enjoyed the "three cups of tea" theory....we might all practice it. I may find a stranger this week and buy them a cup! :)
Have a cup o tea make a friend.
I love the story of Greg Mortenson. He is an example of a true humanitarian person. I think our individual Rotary Clubs should do something to help him in the mission of educating the children of Pakistan. I believe that he does have an answer to promote world peace.

The program about Greg Mortenson was very interesting to me because I am currently reading "Three Cups of Tea." I also reviewed the story of the visit of eClub members to the Rotary Club of Provenciales, Turks & Caicos - very appropriate because I am vacationing in Provenciales at this time.

I thought the April fool's stories great. Like the schools in Pakastan we are helping to build a hospital in Nepal.
A great story. It would have been helpful if the links worked to provide more background and depth to the program.
I have read his book, it is terrific. He should absolutely get a Nobel peace prize.

Interesting that had it not been for those school children in Wisconsin and their piggy banks, this project may have never taken off
Interesting undertaking and what a success! The article sort of reads that Greg did this himself but it's apparent he relied on many others...and together they were successful with this program. Rotary is very much like that....alone we find it difficult to raise enough funds to make a difference, combined as a club, district or organization, we make a difference, over and over again.

I enjoyed the investing in women article and the reasons education for the African female can affect the entire community
I read the book, very thought provoking
Very moving meeting. It just shows you how one person can make a big difference.
I like the convenience for making up a meeting, particularly when you've been gone a couple of weeks and so many things that require your attention,

Excellent way to reduce violence in the World.
I saw this report on ABC News last week and was impressed with Mr. Mortenson's work. He seems to know the Koran (and Islam) well. Very interesting was his observation or hope that educated women will be less likely to permit their sons to go on jihad. Great piece. thanks for sharing it.
I truly enjoyed the quote in this article, "if you educate a boy, you educate an individual, but if you educate a girl, you educate a community". Pretty nice!

well done; much better than another e-club I recently attended.
Having both read this book and visited Pakistan, this program touched me. While I was in Karachi, I was taken to a very primitive school for children of civilian employees of the Pakistan Navy. This school was for girls, and was actually run and taught by wives of naval officers. Both the teachers and the students were extremely proud of their small school which might seem quite inadequate to most of us. I will always remember that day with fondness.
This is a very nice way to do a Rotary make-up.
The power of knowledge is limitless.
What a great story. This person has done a lot for these children and their future

What an inspiration Greg is to all of us. Also, the lesson he teaches about us "trusting" in each other and not "knowing" everything is one that goes a long way.
I think Greg should be person of the year somewhere. I wonder how many climbers have come down off K2, Everest, etc. claiming they would help the villagers? But it was Greg Mortensen, who truly did not have the resources to do it himself actually did it. I can recommend Three Cups of Tea both for its tale of determination and accomplishment, but also for a different side of the Taliban/Pakistan/Afghanistan story.

three cups of tea, meet each other, get confortable with each other, trust each other is a great lesson. Also the idea of educating women in an Islamic world where a boy cannot go n-on a jahid without his mothers permission is a new fact for me.
Great Concept - and GREAT program! Thanks!

great meeting -
A nice story, this. This reminds me that it is much easier to get people rallied around anger than hope, but the latter is in the long run far more effective.

The article is a good introduction to his book, which I read. Healthy perspectives on education, especially for girls, and leadership.

Comments on the Program:
As an administrator in higher education it's both humbling inspiring and embarrassing to see how others view education. Humbling in the sense of the power we hold as educators, we truly have the opportunity to change lives. It's inspiring to see how people can use an education to better their lives and situations. Lastly, as an American it's embarrassing to see how we take education for granted and how few people take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.
As far as the meeting -
I like the format. Embedding videos or links to a server such as YouTube would make the meeting a little more dynamic.
Excellent. You are my favorite e-club! I have 36 years perfect attendance and do not want to go back to square one, however sometimes I cannot make it to a regular meeting. Last October, I made up in Vienna, Austria. Program was 1 1/4 hours long, and in German!
A noble calling but I fear for his safety
The light-hearted intro was a good fit for us today, yet the sobering reality of Mr. Mortenson's mission leaves us with much to do.
Great wonderful accomplishment in a very basic way. However, the final results will endure, I am sure.

I was honored to meet and here Mr. Mortenson in person last year. His story is inspirational and certainly is reflective of what Rotary tries to do too. Rotary first builds personal relationships within our communities, then districts, then zones, then the world.

This story is very interesting and inspring.
Itn is always great to be able to make up a meeting when it is impossible to get to one's own club.
I did do this project on Greg Mortensen but my internet company timed me out as I read. I just went back and reregistered to complete the program...and sign off for attendance credit.
interesting program, thank you
very interesting. i saw the special on the news, and greg mortensen will be speaking at a conference I am attending in a few days. can't wait to hear him speak.
Wonderful program, and a very deserving person of the week.
Mr. Mortenson is a model for the rest of us. Helping others, in a strange and, occasionally hostile, culture. Also, very Rotarian.

I really enjoyed this article..., what I take most important is both a passion for an idea and building of relationships. We may at times become so involved with our project that we forget the people we are there to service.

It shows the courage and inventiveness of so many
Americans. It makes the stay-at-home citizen proud.
Program features Greg Mortenson, ABC television "Person of the Week" for March 27, 2009. Mortenson tried unsuccessfully in 1993 to climb Pakistan's K2 montain peak. "Exhausted and dehydrated Mortenson stumbled into the village of Korphe". The people there helped him. During his recovery in the village, Mortenson discovered the lack of a school for the children. Back in the U.S., and motivated by his experience, Mortenson began fund-raising efforts for a Korphe school. His efforts were successful. Inspired, he founded the Central Asia Institute through which "78 schools for 33,000 Pakistani and Afghan children" have now been built. The process has had dangers. Mortenson has been threatened, and was once even kidnapped. Still he has persevered. He recounted his story in the book "Three Cups of Tea", which instructs readers to begin change by getting to know on a personal level the intended recipients of one's efforts. This month Greg Mortenson received Pakistan's highest civilian award, the Star of Pakistan. Excellent program.

excellent program. very inspiring
Great story about Greg Mortenison. He really focused on building schools in Pakistian and Afghanistan for the children there who needed. It seems he really worked hard to get the money to be able to build the first school in Pakistian and then to build another 77 for a total ot 78 schools is amazing. Great story, hats off to Mr. Mortenison.
