Speaker: Miss Truly Candid

[This MAY be a picture of Miss Truly Candid, taken several decades ago. No one seems to be sure if this is really her or not!-- Editor ]

Our speaker today is Miss Truly Candid who comes to us from the small village of Quaking Pines, high in the Colorado Rockies. She is a graduate of the Backwater Hills High School where she took a journalist class in her senior year. Soon afterward she settled in Quaking Pines where she became the Society Editor of the Podunk Pines Weekly News. Podunk Pines is about five miles from her home, and she travels there every week to deliver her copy. She feels it is her solemn duty to let everyone in town know exactly what everyone else is doing.  Her journalistic skills came to the attention of a Rotary District Governor a few years ago, and she was invited to attend a Rotary District Conference. She has written before about this event for our club. She now feels she is an unquestionable expert on all things Rotary and never hesitates to give her opinion. Today she is covering the Rotary E-Club of the Southwest.

I have admired Miss Truly Candid, created by E-Club member PDG Norma Taylor-Roderique, since the late 1990s when she became noticed by Rotarians. She shares her peripheral view of life with charm, wit, and humor. Miss Truly sees the world from a wise, joyful perspective in which we can laugh at ourselves. I hope you find Miss Truly as much fun as we do.

Judy Taunt

If Miss Truly is right, then being logged on must be a version of having one's feet held to the fire...

26/Feb/10, 7:58pm

I think it's miraculous that we can translate the one-click the received messages and that exist even translators can not rely on them, help us to have a good idea of the meaning of documents in another language different from ours.  With these instruments I may be in touch and communicating with you all.

Another thing to consider as a miracle, is what happened to me as Miss Truly Candid, that we can communicate through computer and skype wonderful. The feel and understand the work that cost him understand.

Have a nice day

I loved the article from Miss Truly Candid.  I also enjoyed reading about the connection between the Boy Scouts and Rotary International.  My son is working on his Eagle Scout project right now and I'm a second generation Rotarian.  Our Club has a connection with the local Boy Scout Council and we've been trying to deepen the connetion with our club

I am on a marathon business trip across the South and Southeast of the U.S.  Everywhere I have been, I have been impressed with people from our church who volunteer to do all kinds of amazing things.  For instance, we have a city manager in an affluent suburb of a large city who spends a huge amount of time helping with an inner-city congregation that ministers to all the "discards" of society.  He (and they) are doing something truly important to give people hope and freedom.  So the point of this program is well-taken:  volunteer!

Ah, The computer ! Miss Truly Candid's  writings are basic downtown to earth, homefolk style remind me of  my  growning up yrs in the tiney  town  only 11 miles from BIG D, back in the olden days ! I still live  in Irvin  my Husband was a Rotarian for  with perfect attendance of 37 yrs. I 3 yrs.

Stories of frustration, joys and simpler. Her comment  of 3 ft of snow on the groun and  not being able to get accross the creek, pale  to what our Dallas area has jusst come thru , no doubt you've heard, 12' plus of record  snow  over Feb 12 thru 15 and THEN WE HAD  RUN OFF  MELT WHICH TURNED TO ICE  for 4 more days !

I enjoy  E Rotary, especially in  adverse weather conditions, being captive to my business, as I own and manage my Funeral Home my late Husband's career began in 1957,

Thank you for this  E Club.

I will keep good thoughts/ prayers of your member  who announced his  health issues with cancer.

Dear Ms. Truly Candid:

One last thought before a good night's sleep: If you walked in the door with that hat and that form-fitting dress, I do not think that I would question your knowledge of Rotary affairs. You seem quite adept at dealing with 'affairs of the heart'. Next time that you see my friend, Norma, tell her that I miss our correspondence, but you know that, I am sure, Miss Truly!

I loved the insights, understated, and the overreach in what you do not know, overstated, but mostly I enjoyed having such a knowledgable woman sit next to me in a Rotary E-Meeting.

Gosh, I got three women of knowledge about Rotary in one program: you, Miss Truly, Norma and Judy. Wow!!

The Olympics are also a wonderful time.  I think Rotary make wishes come true by funding six families's attendance at the Olympic Games is AWESOME and what Rotary is all about.  I have recently been involved with raising funds for the Make a Wish Foundation with a small organization and the feeling it provides to complete this event is undescribable.  Major Kudos!  Thanks for reminding us of what we can do for those less fortunate than us or those with terminal illnesses that have a dream.

Also congratulations to the Boy Scouts.  Wow, Rotary sponsoring 45,528 Boy Scouts is unbelievable and GREAT.

Miss Truly has a good point.  Oh she's also pretty funny.

Mis Truly Candid is truly clever. I liked knowing about the Rotary Club in Canada pairing up with the Make A Wish Foundation.

I am sorry to learn that Jerry Traylor is dealing with cancer and encouraged that it can be treated, and concerned that it is non-curable.  It is nice that Rotary can be involved in Chirldren's Wish Foundation and sent 6 families to the 2010 Olympics!  That is awesome for the families and children especially.  I enjoyed the "Inner Peace" submitted by Bob Adams.

How wonderful it is that Rotary can provide such kindness in a world that has forgotten that practice.  The familes who attended the Olympics because of Rotary will spread a helping hand and who knows in the near future what will happen in the lost world.  We may wind up finding ourselves again.

Original and very entertaining program serving two purposes: one, to poke a little gentle fun at Rotary, the internet, modern technology and the Rotary eClub phenomenon; and ,two, to encourage Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA members (56 in 16 countries on six continents) to "participate, volunteer and report your hours, take some leadership steps to improve your club, enter some news on the home page, and take part in some of those discussion forums". In other words, utilize more of the tremendous opportunities available to the eClub member, while at the same time doing what Rotarians do best, serving the best by serving the most - VOLUNTEER! Excellent program.

15/Feb/10, 8:39am

Dear Ms. Truly:

Sorry to bother you again but after coming home from the YMCA (working these tired bones and muscles), I did notice that the E-Club that you describe does have some bland spaces for the 53 members that you reported. It is where their faces (photographs) should be: one from Illinois, Monterrey, Mexico, and Massachusetts; three from California; and eight from Arizona (isn't that where the E-Club began). With this new computer that my ten-year old has helped me master, I have a friend in New Zealand who I have never met face to face across a table but I know from his writings and the image of his face on the computer. In fact, I have learned to know him better than my recluse next door neighbor. It is interesting. Is this what you meant by needing to communicate?

A friend who admires your dress and hat.

15/Feb/10, 6:14am

Dear Miss Truly Candid:

After I took my eye drops last night for my bad eyes, I found that reading your most interesting article about something called an E-Club was fascinating. I too have questions about how such a Rotary club can work over the computer (but I did purchase one of these devilish devices last Christmas) and find that I can now keep up with my ten-year old granddaughter, who understands its uses quite clearly- in fact, she just did something called "a power point presentation" in her fifth-grade class on some National Park. I have asked her to help me with my computer and she is schooling me.

I do find that some people are better at "hide and seek" than my ten-year old granddaughter but I do not have a clue how to start finding them. Maybe you could help me on this mission.

Thank you most kindly for this interesting and bewildering article,

Grandpa Joe

Certanily the e-club has opened up the world of Rotary communication. Yes I am doing a make up because I was away last week seeing my grandchildren who live in Surfers Paradise on the Austrlian Queensland coast. If you have not been , book a flight!!
