I enjoyed the tour and the tidbits of information about Rotary! I wish I would have thought of visiting when I was at the internation convention in 2005--I'll have to make it a point to go back.

I enjoyed the leading article encouraging rotarians from different clubs to get in contact with each other and learn from each.  In this case the visit to the Oakman, the gold rush ghost town.

The virtual visit to the offices of Rotary International were very interesting including the 711 room, the beginning of the Rotary Foundation in 1918, the room of flags, board room, and offices.

The tour was great. Also, COL info, very interesting. How would I get a recommendation to the lady in charge.

27/Feb/10, 7:38pm

Everyone should go to Evanston and visit this in person.  I was there in 2005 and it is awesome to meet the people you talk with from time to time.  A lot of history in that building.  Thanks Rick.

This was an excellent program. If I can get to Chicago, I'll definitely make arrangements to see One Rotary Center. What a rich history our organization has -- and this program has inspired me again to share it with others.

It was really interesting to see the tour of One Rotary Center.  I lived about 2 miles north of there before that building was built.  My first Rotary meeting was in Brazil in 1973, just before I moved from Evanston to Colorado.  It would be great to visit that HQ some day.

Thank you for allowing me to visit.  I especially liked the info about Oatman and am interested in stopping by there on my way out west.  Loved the joke too.  Thank you for your hospitality and making yourselves available for us to visit and make up meetings.

26/Feb/10, 10:46pm

26/Feb/10, 10:20pm

interesting.....

26/Feb/10, 7:47pm

I enjoyed the program very much.  My husband and I had the pleasure of touring Rotary HQ in 2005 when we attending the Centennial Convention. It was memorable and "cute" to see the lines of Rotarians from all over the world waiting for a chance to sit in the RI President's desk to pose for a photo.  Thanks for the reminder of good memories.

This was such a worthwhile program for any Rotarian who has not had an opportunity to visit One Rotary Center. I had occasion to do so in 2001 when I was a delegate to the Council on Legislation; however, I did not begin to see all the rooms and Rotary objects that were presented in this program. Too bad Miss Truly Candid doesn't fly anymore -- I am sure she would be most impressed with this building and its displays. No doubt she would have her own unique comments to add.

26/Feb/10, 4:22am

The PolioPlus story is always amazing to hear--and re-read.  I often surprise myself recounting the story to people who ask, "What does Rotary do?"  Many are overwhelmed by the scope and success of the program.

The RI office in Evanston, Illinois, is very interesting.  I was amazed at the many board rooms, museums filled with memorabilia, and the fact that there are nine official Rotary languages which can be interpreted simultaneously at major meetings.  Also, I found of interest the biographical sketch of RI President Kenny.

Knowing our Rotary History should be our primary endeavor, and this is a wonderful presentation on part of that history.  I am glad that the name of Dr. Carlos Canseco, 1984-85 RI President was mentioned.  Maybe this will encourage some of our new members from Monterrey, Mexico to try to assemble the history of Dr. Canseco´s district, so that it can be entered in the archives of Rotary Global History Fellowship  I would also like to encourage all of the members of the E-Club of the Southwest and all Rotarian visitors to join the Rotary Global History Fellowship. Please be a supporter of the Rotary legacy by joining RGHF, and contributing to the future success of Rotary International.

Great to hear what's happening with members of the Rotary eClub of the SW USA.  May have to check out Oatman when visiting my folks.  Not sure when I'll get to Rotary HQ so great to learn more about it.  Thank you for letting me "visit" this meeting.

On my bucket list to do is visit RI headquarters, along with the Baseball and Football Hall of Fame, just to name a few.

Great program

22/Feb/10, 9:46pm

Really enjoyed the program.  I visited the RI headquarters in early 2009 to meet with Past RI Pres. DK Lee for is input into the ROtary Rose Parade Float Marketing DVD.  I was most impressed with the Centennial Books reading the words of Rotarians from all over the world!   I am also impressed with the cleanliness of RIPE Ray's office.  A bitdifferent from DK Lee's.  No offense meant.  I related way ore to DK Lee's office!

Rick Barrett gives us a fascinating "tour" of the One Rotary Center, dedicated in 1988 and, located in Evanston, Illinois. Rick is a well qualified guide inasmuch as he works at Rotary's headquarters. The 16th floor features Rotary's main reception area and a recreation of the Chicago Unity Building's Room 711 where the first ever Rotary meeting was held. Various Rotary artifacts are displayed on this floor. The 17th floor is occupied by the Rotary Foundation. Many Foundation artifacts are featured here, as well as tributes to the father of the Rotary Foundation Arch C. Klumph. The 18th floor contains many more displays and artifacts; but also houses the Board Room and executive offices. Of note, the $100 million presentation check from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the Rotary Foundation for the PolioPlus campaign is displayed. Clearly, our Rotary headquarters is an inspiring destination for all Rotarians. Excellent program.

22/Feb/10, 8:27am

Love the story about Oatman.  Brings back memories for when I was a child and my familiy owned land over the hill in the Golden Valley.

22/Feb/10, 7:25am

Excellent program. Nice to see www.room711.org used as a reference. That is a very early part of RGHF. Also found is a section on the Harris Office www.harrisoffice.org Excellent material, I did not know that an RI employee was in our club. We have details on the former headquarters. Just use www.historysearch.org and "headquarters" should find it.

22/Feb/10, 6:57am

Great review of the RI Headquarters. Especially for those of us who have not had the opportunity to visit in person. For those who have, it rekindles the memories.

22/Feb/10, 6:39am

Thank you, Rick, for this presentation. The last time that I was there, over a year ago, I was delighted to see so much about the history that was not yesterday but lives today.

Looking forward to having lunch with you tomorrow in Evanston, before attending Rotary/One's celebratin in the evening at the Hyatt Regency. Also my students thanks Rotary for giving them a day to work assignement (ha!) and not have Art Appreciation class.

22/Feb/10, 5:19am

This presentation should be mandatory for every Rotarian

22/Feb/10, 3:14am

I had the opportunity to visit One Rotary Center in 2005 and was graciously toured by Colette Martn-Wilde of Humanitarian Grants section. It was a surprised visit so she hasn't much time to get me around. I'm glad I was able to see evrything from your tour including the offices.
