Program: Global Networking Groups of Rotary

Speaker: Jack Selway

June is Fellowships month. But it's not just a few Rotary Fellowships anymore. . . as eClub member Jack Selway explains, the Rotary Fellowships program belongs to a new parent entity known as Global Networking Groups. The new entity includes groups of individual Rotarians organized to focus on shared topics of interest on an international basis, for fun and fellowship, and for focused action. RAGs and Fellowships -- there's a lot here for all of us to learn!

Jack Selway is not only a member of the Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA, he is also the founder of the now-nearly-ten-years-old Rotary Global History Fellowship.  For anyone who values Rotary history, Jack deserves a special place in your heart!  With the other founding members of RGHF, he has helped create a veritable museum for Rotary on the web, and you are certainly encouraged to visit this site at http://www.rghf.org when you can.

This week, Jack introduces the wealth and variety of fellowship opportunities available to members of Rotary.  Didn't know there was a group for those who love canoeing and another for those who appreciate dolls?  You'll know much more after reading this week's program!

As a member of a new club, it is always nice to learn new ways we, as Rotarians, can get involved in our communities and, at the same time, fellowship with one another.

09/Jun/10, 3:44am

I wasn't aware of these action groups, so the program was informative.  I noticed that one of them focuses on disaster relief.  I am involved in disaster relief and reconstruction in Haiti, so I will definitely look up this group.

Great information.  Helpful for so many different kinds of connecting with common cause Rotarians.

07/Jun/10, 7:47pm

Good financial news. It is very important to keep the bulk of the resources of The Rotary Foundation in fixed income securities and not risk investing in shares of stock.

A sincere appreciation for all men and women of the armed forces of the United States who gave their lives for the freedom of their country.

07/Jun/10, 1:08pm

As a member of the RGHF, I think fellowships are a great way to expand involvement in Rotary.

Great Program!  I am a lifetime member of the Rotary Wine Fellowship stewarded by CC Heede who will have a booth at the RI conference in Montreal.  We get a monthly newsletter on wine and great dinners at the RI Conference.  Always sold out even before the conference begins.  Wish me luck this weekend when in the HofF  I try to explain the joy of Eclubs to Dt. 5300 brick and mortar Rotarioans.

6-6-2010Jack Selway’s overview of Rotary Fellowships and Action Groups was excellent. It’s easy to join a Rotary Chapter, attend weekly meetings, develop friendships, and then assume that’s the full extent of Rotary fellowships and activities. Jack’s review of all the good things Rotarians around the world are doing in pursuit of their own interests shows how vibrant Rotary connections can be!Thanks, Jack, for this great reminder of the extent of Rotary friendships!Brooks C. I enjoyed reading the poem.  It was a great addition to the meeting.  While enjoying the day off from work, our thoughts and prayers should be with those serving yesterday and today, and those giving their lives for our freedom.  Thanks.

Today is my very first time of trying to make-up online with your club, and I must say I am very impressed with the organisation of the pages. It actually takes you through a proper meeting and I am very delighted to see this.

I will always use this e-clubs when I have to make up for missed meetings.

Thanks

Jack Selway introduces the uninformed to the exploding world of Rotary Global Networking Groups, the entire history of which may be found at www.GlobalNetworkingGroups.org. Whether the Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians in 1947, or the Esperanto Fellowship in 1928 was Rotary's first Fellowship, the fact remains Fellowships are hugely popular and appeal to a vast array of interests. Many have themselves spawned independent events and programs. On July 1, 2006, Rotary International introduced another class of networks called the Rotarian Action Groups. These groups target specific issues or needs and unite Rotarians of like minded interest in a particular cause to seek solutions. Rotarians truly live in a world without limit. Great program.
