Program: Many Voices, One Song

Speaker: Various

Ultimately, what is the main resource of a Rotary eClub? We believe that it is the quality, talents, skills, and passion of our members. Many of our members , young and more seasoned Rotarians, have lived the adages: “Life is not how you learn to survive the storm; it is how you dance in the rain” and “It is not that you have everything but that you use everything that you have!”

We have asked some members, as we start a new journey into an undiscovered country of being a full-fledged partner in the Rotary world, to write about why they joined the eClub, how the eClub has fulfilled their expectations, and what they envision the eClub to be for them and Rotary International in the future. This is a town gathering of friends, telling stories answering emails for requests, and speculating on their and the eClub’s future in a local/global experience. Learn about who we are from selected members (some particularly selected and some asked at random). The Rotary eClub of the Southwest, USA is growing every moment (in 2009-2010, we grew from 44 to 71 members to date) and new members come in just when we turn our backs. From the stories of our fellow members, we can all learn what is behind the mask that the Internet sometimes wears.

I thoroughly enjoy the humor of the club, as well as the words of wisdom. The wonderful response by PDG Taylor-rodiquez was most clever and I would have love to have been at some of her presentatons.  What a clever and creative person, with a great imagination and even better sense of humor.  Thanks for a most enjoyable program.

This program is a great way to showcase the diversity of the eClub membership.  Thanks to all who contributed to this program.  I am especially looking foward to reading what Miss Truly Candid has to write in her next column.  Stay tuned.

17/Jul/10, 7:30pm

I really enjoyed reading about these member stories.  I echo Francoise's suggestion that GSE people need to join Rotary in some capacity and e-club is a great avenue for this.  Personally, I think any GSE member should commit to Rotary membership for at least a year following their exchange.

WOW!  I never, ever thought about e-club as anything other than a "convenient" way to meet/make-up.  The stories about accessability and overcoming personal limitations were inspiring.  The more I learn about this club and participate as a make-up (my travel schedule is sometimes demanding) the more I like it.  In fact, I have recommended that my mom join.  She is thinking about leaving Rotary after years of faithful service (12 years perfect attendance, Assistant District Governor, Shelter Box, etc.) and this club may be perfect for her.  Thanks.

I have been a Rotarian for about 12 years.  This is my first eclub make-up.  I enjoyed it.  I am a very active member.  I am currently our District (D5330) Chair for Rotary Friendship Exchange.  I am in the middle of my 3 year commitment to RFE.  I am a past Centennial President and was International Chair for our Club last year.  I am a board member of Children Health International Projects; formerly, D5330 Roto-Plast.  I am also involved with a dental / Cleft Lip clinic with 1000 Smile through CHIPs and another Club in our District.

If I view an older program, does it also count as a make-up?

I enjoyed reading why people joined the e-club.  I am past President of my Rotary Club in Kansas, and own my own business. The last year has been a challenging Rotary year, but a very positive business year, requiring me to travel and miss many of our in person meetings. I appreciate the opportunity to participate in these types of make-up meetings, and also realize that we all appreciate e-clubs for different reasons!

As an artist myself I agree with this idea of " seeing the world with new eyes = learning". We must wake each day as a new born with wonder and appreciation of gods gift of life and the wonder around us. The love of life is also the love of learning... the day is an adventure and a new opportunity to learn how lucky we are.

I wasn't surprised by any of the comments from these RECSWUSA members - they are true Rotarians!  As a somewhat frequent makeup visitor to your Eclub, I would like to say thanks for providing me a way to keep my membership going in my terra club in Marshfield, MO.  I am on the road most of the time and probably would not be able to remain a member if I did not have RECSWUSA "out there."  I'm also very grateful to the Marshfield club for letting me satisfy my attendance requirements through these makeups.

Very interesting program introducing us to various RECSWUSA members whom, as is to be expected, come from various locales and professional backgrounds. One factor they all seem to share though is the desire to personally place "Service Above Self". Each expresses sincere reverence for the proven Rotary service model; and are enthusiastic about its potential through the eClub format. Frankly, through what other vehicle could a Rotary visitor meet fellow Rotarians from another club and learn so much about them personally, SO QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY, as with this eClub style presentation? Bravo RI for the commitment to eClubs everywhere!

thank you for this well prepared meeting

I speciffically like the idea of asking members to introduce themselves trhough a specific subject (like why interested in e-club)

Could someone explain to me how to fill BIO'S??when I click "save" everrything disappears  and nothing is saved

I did it four times...

is that the reason why so few Bio's are filled by members??

it is a good tool for new comers to get to know the club and it's members

thanks

Good job, Joe!

12/Jul/10, 5:37am

Oh, I was so delighted with what was presented that I forgot the main thing that should have been said: "Thank you, Norma, Judy, Rick, Maureen, Kim, Victor, Francoise, and Frank!!!"

To our other members, if you have been reticent about telling others about who, what and why you care (and are a member of the eClub), send us your story: to me as President or Stephen Shearin, our Communications/Internet Chairman (all contributions go to Stephen for forematting).

Now, that we are a standard Rotary club, in the total symphony orchestra of Rotary International, we need more of these 'town meetings' where we share what we are doing locally and globally in our service to the world, what drives us to do it, and just what is 'your life' about at this moment in time and how it influences what we do, how much we serve, and when we feel free to communicate with other eClub members and our Rotarian visitors. When we get enough for a program, we will try this again. Tell us what you wish to know about what we do and who are our resources to get it done.

12/Jul/10, 5:34am

This was a great start in getting to know better the members of our club.  We'll continue this theme throughout the year 2010-2011

12/Jul/10, 5:07am

I had read each of these contributions separately but when I read the program today, I got the symphony of voices, the different instruments of our eClub orchestra, playing together. The reasons for joining the eClub are not all the same (yet underneath, they are- which is that these human being care). The ultimate sound of the collective voice are but chamber group that plays for us this day on this second program. The full orchestra of the eClub plays worldwide (and at the same time locally). That is our strength; that is our weakness (we are physically separated); but when we come together in a program like this or in a service someplace in the world or when we reach out across borders, across cultural boundaries and communicate one to one, we make beautiful music. I was not sure how this would play when we asked for contributions. I loved it. What do you think?
