Program: Windmills, Salt, and Green Technology

Speaker: Various Sources

This week's program is in two parts.

The first, if you are a Recswusa club member, you should already be intimately familiar with as we as a club, lead by Dr Vimal Hemani and PP Larry Levenson, were co-contributors. The second part of this program is just a quick primer on Green Technology. One page, a little information, and hopefully enough to give you some ideas about what to search for if you are interested in, confused by, or generally curious about Green Tech.

The humor is great!

I hope we dont risk financial good sense in an effort to be green here in the US.   We dont need to send more jobs out our country.

10/Sep/10, 9:04am

I especially enjoyed the quotation by Paul Harris from 1945 about "hanging onto the fringes of a rapidly changing world."  Oh, for the complexities of life in 1945.

I would have liked even more information.  These are subjects in which I am very interested.

31/Aug/10, 4:30am

While I am all in favor of green technology, one caveat needs to be remembered.  It is not always cost effective.  I have researched building a "Green" house and it was much more expensive.  before Green really succeeds it must be made cost effective.

The windmill project is great. I hope it can be expanded to help more familes and their communities.

Steve Cantor, thanks for encouraging eClub members to step out and connect with other local clubs in their area to  enjoy  fellowship with these Rotarians, and join in their projects as an eClub Rotarian.   I hope everyone feels motivated to step out and enjoy some fellowship, especially fellowship through service.

In Kingston, our city is working to become the most sustainable sity in Ontario. In the past year we've seen a number of large wind farms come on stream and our provincial government has launched a program to purchase energy generated from solar panels. Green is certainly prevalent and far-reaching.

Great to get the press on the windmill project! I especially like the idea that microloans could make this something widespread in this part of Gujarat.

Greetings to everyone from an airport waiting area, by the way. How cool is it that we can get our weekly service energy this way? Pretty darn cool, I'd say.

Congratulations on a very promising international project which supports the direction of going "green".  In April, 2010 we held a carbon neutral district conference.  I hope more Rotarians join our efforts to save our planet for future generations.

14/Aug/10, 2:20am

Thanks a lot for all this great work.

I was away from all kinds of technology (even phone) for about 10 days so I am catching up.

Can you please tell me at what time the meeting is held so I can join whenever it is possible.

Have a nice week-end

14/Aug/10, 1:53am

My first visit to an eclub and it was wonderful. Now I can convince my fellow Rotarians there is no reason to not be a 100%er anymore.

13/Aug/10, 7:30pm

Windmills were a smart choice to save time from maintenance and money for basic amenities.

13/Aug/10, 7:43am

Here is something that might be of interest.

Currently I teach, part time, some courses in Tucson and Sierra Vista regarding Logistics and Supply Chain Management.  The student from Germany did a bonus project for the last day on recycling from a European perspective.  I decided to turn the whole last 3 hours of class into a "recycling" discussion so had them prepare something to talk about before coming to class.

The students prepared more infomation than they had ever prepared before and the discussion was really incredible, animated and passionate.   It was the most active class session of the semester.

The lesson for me, there is tremendous attention to recycling and ideas even though, in Arizona, recycling efforts are still in the infant stage.  When the students delved into what different countries do to recycle the participation rate increased exponentially.

Even with people 50 and above this is a very hot topic and is worth discussing with everyone.

This is my first "E" make up. I am impressed with what has been done and the future opportunities there are for the work of Rotary to continue. I've been a Rotarian since 1965, a three time President in two different Clubs and am  always impressed with how Rotary has evolved over the years.  My Club , Mechanicsburg, PA  was chartered in 1938 and this year for the first time had an international project, by drilling a well.  We also do the normal support of worth while Community projects.

Green technology is very important for the survival of mankind.  The sooner we implement ideas on green technology and nanotechnology, the better the chances for survival of humanity.  The nations that lead in these fields will certainly be the leaders of the future.

Good morning,

I find the activities with the families of the armed forces very interesting and something that can be implemented here in my native country of Honduras.

I´ve know that the Honduras armed formces have activities that are creeated to help the comunities in which their batalions are located . These activities are very helpful for the communities because sometimes these communities are very poor and the military uses their logistics to bring them much needed supplies.

I beleive Rotary can team up with the Honduras armed forces and also with the memebers of the US armed forces which have a base here in Honduras to proyect their commitment to helping the community.

Best regards,

Victor Gutierrez

Yes, Brewer, my wife Anne did notice that for this meeting I was wearing a blond wig (actually the true color of my hair). Ha, I enjoyed the picture. What it did was underscore how we work. I wrote comments for the President's Corner before I left (for three meetings just in case...), asked Carol to help as President-elect to take over the meeting since I was in non-computer territory for our 11th Annual Family Reunion (which I would never miss since it is a blast for everyone), and asked all the committee chairmen to give reports so that I was up to date when I returned yesterday. All went as planned. And why? Because everyone did the service asked of them. That is what I love about Rotary. We all do our part.

Now that I am back, it will take me a few days to catch up on the 300 plus emails that have piled up but I too will slide into my service to our marvelous eClub. And too...I do look better as a blond.

Green technology is the future; solar cells for water heating or electricity and the oldest of all the windmills used time ago to grind grains, now used instead of pumps or electricity production.

¡Great program!

The windmills are A great idea. I am wondering what the cost per working unit might be?

I always enjoy our President's comments and wonderful mental images. It gives us all a chance to get outside the box and FLY. It was rewarding, too, to read about the windmill project in which our club participated. I think our club is absolutely wonderful!

GO GIRL, congratulations and good luck to Carolyn Kairie our World Peace Fellowship candidate!.

Loved the windmill/salt project -- showed to a local middle schooler who had done a salt/sugar crystal science project and her class watched the program after I had sent it to her!  One way to promote ROTARY -- share the programs!

How many mentors are needed and Ementors or RI mentors?

Well, I from Kansas and take exception to the "Joke" of the day.  However, I did find it quite humorous.  Also, I grew up on a farm in Kansas and my father and grandfather used windmills to pump water for their cattle.  Windmills are a very efficent and cost effective method to pump water.  Excellent program and a good project!

The challenge to be creative and progressive is timeless and always needed.  The program is excellent.  The windmills are a super idea that will help raise the standard of living for those families in India.  It is a great example of international service.

The windmill project in India was a real eye opener to how salt is produced in one part of the world and how the harnessing of wind has made life better for those producers.

Great project!

This is but a short note to thank everyone who has taken over since I was away from a well-functioning computer for over seven days but I did have a wonderful time with the extended family at our 11th Annual Family Reunion in the hills of Pennsylvania. I wish to thank Carol, our President-elect for taking over for me at this month's Board meeting. I do believe that Rotary has started a celebration of Opposite Day (which I wrote before leaving Texas and journeying back East) sigh its oppoisition to polio and other illnesses, its fight for peace in a world of war, and its emphasis on goodwill, fellowship and service in cultures where "me first" is many times practiced.

It was wonderful reading again about the Windmill Project (which was featureed in RI's Rotarian Magazine. Also I wish from a distance to welcome our new positions on the Baord, Public Replations and New Generations. .

Joe, does your wife know you are wearing a blonde wig now. (see picture of Joe at the beginning)

While this is a very informative presentation, the recent exposure of the manipulation of the data, re: global warming for example, to promote the damage to our planet to sell some of the "new ideas" leaves me wondering. We have the expansion of a local nuclear plant going thru all kinds of environmental studies and government rules and regs. The environmental wackos are in control and preventing the expansion of "clean" energy. Explain this: the wackos and the government preventing clean energy.

I belive they should go live in a cave and burn animal fat

Good morning everybody

another great week is begining   !!!

about "opposite day",a great idea to push for new ideas, let me tell you something

When I was a boyscout,in the east of France,we always had an opposite day during the summer camp

it started with dinner ,and at night we were having breakfast

the whole usual program was also vice versa of a normal day....

during that day,it was a whole bunch of creations and new ideas, very fertile day

Today is around 25 degres celsius, planned to become 33 in the afternoon, blue sky,..great weather in the alps...I suppose Arizona is worse and dry!!!!!!Have a Coors or Bud and some A/C  periods!!

best regards

GERRY(Gérard EPIN,France)
