Kick Polio Out of Africa!
Speaker: Rick Barrett
Date: Nov 01, 2010
Intro: To begin Foundation month, I wanted to share a recent campaign to "Kick Polio Out of Africa." The global eradication of Polio remains among The Rotary Foundation's top priorities. Since the Global Polio Eradication Initiative began in 1988, polio cases globally have dropped by over 99 percent, and polio now remains extent in only four countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan. The "Kick Polio Out of Africa" campaign focused on Africa, where many countries are still threatened by imported cases of polio from Nigeria. This campaign was supported by government leaders across the continent and raised public awareness of why it is so important to continue immunizing children against this dreaded disease.

Grant Writing

Date: Oct 11, 2010
If grant writing was easy, organizations would write more grants and be able to do more service for their community and its people. If grant writing did not take time, energy and research, many small or medium size organizations would have the funds to make a difference in their community. If writing grants was like learning to ride a bicycle, it would not take as many years to learn to do it successfully. If grant writing did not mean the job of the hired Director of a non-profit organization, that same Director would still have to write grants to get thing done but the stress would be less.
If Rotary Clubs could pyramid their grants, more funds would be available for ‘service above self’ in their community and the world. Here are some beginning hints and suggestions about grant writing and a model successful Matching Grant that can be used as a template for other grants that needs writing. Grant writing is not glamorous or emotional, but it is necessary for any non-profit organizations, and especially for Rotary Clubs. See if all Rotarians should know about this worthwhile skill…so read on!
