Two Passions: Solar Cooking and Nepal
Speaker: Allart Ligtenberg
Date: Sep 14, 2009
Allart Ligtenberg was born in Indonesia and educated in The Netherlands, receiving BSEE, MSEE/Drs. degrees from the Technological University of Delft. In 1992 he retired from Hewlett-Packard to follow his dream of disseminating solar cooking/water pasteurization techniques in Nepal and other developing countries. He is a passionate advocate for the poor of Nepal, and a Rotarian with an uncommon grasp of both the breadth of challenges brought on by poverty, and also the possibilities simple renewable energy technologies hold for addressing these challenges.
His program for our club demonstrates how one committed to making a difference can repeatedly find solutions to, and opportunities within, the challenges that arise when one seeks to make a difference on a phenomenal scale.

75,000 Acres
Speaker: Charles Townsing
Date: Aug 31, 2009
Today we hear from one of our own, Charles Townsing. Charles has been a member of Rotary for almost twenty years, and joined pour eClub last year due to the difficulty of getting to the nearest traditional Rotary Club, which is apparently a 200-mile round trip!
Charles and his wife Fay spent several decades running a bakery, then made the switch to the Australian Outback, where they quickly learned about fencing, solar energy, and water issues. Fortunately for us, he's willing to share that learning so we don't have to spend the years learning it firsthand!
Please be patient with the file; it's rather large.
