Champion for Chernobyl
Speaker: Michael Snyder for The Rotarian
Date: Apr 17, 2006
In honor of magazine month, Sher Downing, our program director, sends us this program from The Rotarian about an Indiana boy who was a Rotarian long before he ever joined a Rotary club. Be sure to review your magazine monthly - it is always full of interesting Rotary information and inspirational articles about projects around the world. If you should ever miss an issue, you can read it online at http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/rotarian/index.html.

Rotary International"s E-Club Pilot Project & Council of Legislation
Speaker: Judy Taunt, PP, Rotary eClub of The Southwest, USA
Date: Apr 03, 2006
This week's program is in celebration of Recswusa's second anniversary of chartering. We have come a long way since January 2004 with organizational meetings and chartering on April 1, 2004. It had been suggested that an updated e-club program be presented. As I researched each site I could see the growth and development of each club and therefore, the pilot project as a whole. It is inspiring to view how each one of us is different yet we are held together by the service and commitment that is Rotary. As our world changes we participate in that change by being part of this club and the pilot project. We are all members of Rotary. As e-club members we just have a different format.
I wish to thank PDG Mel for his contribution of RI and COL information, and Judi Woods, our RI contact, for her inspiration in presenting this program.

Willing is not enough; we must do...."

Rumor, Fear, and Fatigue Hinder Final Push to End Polio
Speaker: Celia W. Dugger and Donald G. McNeil, Jr
Date: Mar 27, 2006
This article, published last week in the New York Times, details the challenges facing Rotary in its push to eliminate polio in its last strongholds. This is also an unusual example of Rotary exposure in the national press. Although I read it in the NY Times Online and planned it for a program, my thanks to PP Judy for also spotting it and reminding me of it.

The History and Possible Revival of the Fairness Doctrine
Speaker: Nat Hentoff
Date: Mar 20, 2006
In recent years, there has been a proliferation of "personality" and talk-radio programs some of which promote extremely specific points of view, both conservative and liberal. Here is a thought-provoking article about ways in which broadcast First Amendment free speech rights have been served or disserved by the judicial system. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the speaker, the subject deserves some thought.
