The End of Cheap Oil?

Speaker: Jonathan Mazinter, Rotary eClub The Southwest, USA
Date: Aug 23, 2004

I live in a small house in Scottsdale Arizona. I have 2 kids (4 years & 2 years old) and my wife is pregnant with #3.   Last month I was sitting in my personal library, reading a article in one of my National Geographic magazines called "The end of cheap Oil". Wowzer! I did not realize how much my families life depends and revolves on that black stuff that comes from the ground!  After reading that article I looked around my home and all I saw was stuff that had descended from oil-based polymers. Wowzer, Wowzer.   More than Gasoline, Oil yields everything from Medical Implants, Fertilizers, Computers, Bike Helmets, Balls, Barbie Dolls, Shoes, Shampoo Bottles, Clothes, Plastic and so, so, so much more.  I thought I would share some of the article with you.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Introducing Rotary International& Online Member Access

Speaker:
Date: Aug 02, 2004

The Program for today concerns registering on the RI website.

There are several important areas of the RI website that are available only to Rotarians who have taken the opportunity to register with RI. There are specific things you will have to know, such as our district number, club number, and Rotary membership number assigned to you, in order to register. All this information is available on the Rotary membership card each of you received. Have that card in hand and go to the following link that will walk you through the process. Please note that some functions are accessible by only the club president and secretary. However, the functions that are available to all members pertain to their RI Foundation contributions & other important elements.

Visitors, please also go to the link and the program will tell you where to find the information. As a shortcut, your member number is on the mailing label of your Rotarian Magazine. Even though you may have already registered on the Rotary site, you will still benefit from clicking through the e-Learning center module. You may find out some things that escaped you the first time. Each Rotarian that has Internet access should be registered with the RI site.

On the Frontier - Go Ahead, Call Us Cowboys

Speaker:
Date: Jul 26, 2004

Our program this week addresses an issue that we have all confronted in one-way or another - why is the American culture generally different from those throughout the rest of the world. Andrew and Judith Kleinfeld have produced a thought-provoking article that I think you will really enjoy. M [Mr. Kleinfeld is a judge on the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Mrs. Kleinfeld is director of the Northern Studies Program at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. This article appears in the July/August issue of The American Enterprise.]
