Living on the Reservation

In November of 2009 I accepted a temporary position (later changing to permanent Federal employee) as a physician at the Pinon Health Center in the middle of the Navajo Indian Nation in northern Arizona. Our first night was spent at the Thunderbird Lodge in Chinle, which is nice, the restaurant with the hotel is a cafeteria and as we lined up for dinner I saw all the foods I remember from my childhood in the 1950’s.

THE TOURNMENT OF ROSES, ROSE PARADE

The Tournament of Roses has come a long way since its early days. The Rose Parade’s elaborate floats now feature high-tech computerized animation and exotic natural materials from around the world. Although a few floats are still built exclusively by volunteers from their sponsoring communities, most are built by professional float building companies and take nearly a year to construct.
