Success of the new forum and website
Posted: 5 years ago
Our new forum, with thanks to former Rotary Scholar and Canadian internet expert, Kent Fancy, looks like a "whole new club." With the "rating system" we are encouraged to visit each others profiles, view photos, learn about our interests, and "get to know each other." This format has many advantages, and used properly, will create the eClub about I'm excited. I also echo our incoming president with the comment, oft stated before, that we need to use "real" names in this eClub forum. There is no need to hide here, or cause "outsiders" who decipher who we are. First Last names has proven useful for terra clubs, with a Call name that is closely associated.

Great points John.
Also, the rating system can give us some idea of people's activity.
It's completely fallible, but could assist in vetting new member apps.
If someone can't participate enough to get 15 pts over the 1-2 months it typically takes to get them in the club, you have to wonder how much they'll participate once they're in....
A good post here, a photo there, mention of an activity via a blog - all could warrant even 3 pts from 2 users, 3 time in 6 weeks - 18 pts...
I thought that was a good idea that darin mentioned to me last week.

Any new system has a learning curve and we need to encourage our members not to despair if things aren't instantly obvious - and in a couple of cases they're not.
I know it's early days and a lot is being done - I hope when it's finished it will be more interesting graphically. Right now there is a LOT of print.
And really small print too. In writing this messager I found I can make the print italics or bold but blessed if I see any way to make it larger. I will not be attracted to long sessions reading or writing at this type size.

Amen again. It will take time, but the text needs to be readable.
I managed this in MS Word and then cut and paste, but there's got to be a better way.

We're hoping to be live for the next meeting - my last and the final beta test to be ready for Ryofu to take over.
Any glaring omissions or major design shifts that need to happen before it's released for public consumption?

I used to enjoy the weekly "Rotary Club" meetings, mostly for the contacts that I could see in "one place." It was good for the volunteer work I did in our community. (and on rare occasions for my business.) In between, there was not much happening, which is what led me to create www.rotaryfirst100.org and the eventual 3,000 pages of RGHF history.
Now, I'm finding, because of the hard work that's been done, and being done, on the new website, that eRotary can be all day every day 24/7. I'm sure that I'll find a level of participation, but now it's been really nice to have a sense of participation throughout the day: Welcoming visitors, encouraging members (trying sincerely not to be a pest), and visioning new directions, the all important eDistrict, and fellowship to bring about the potential of eClubbing.
God bless ReCSWUSA and all its members.
