What does the foundation do, anyway?

Ok, so I know this answer, but I was thinking I'd break the ice on some foundation discussion.
Anyone? Anyone?

OK. Done.
No need for a discussion forum. We can just go there.
;)
Seriously though, perhaps there is some information there that could spark a Foundation conversation and bring it to life? Just going there and reading is not enough...

I ran about 15 meetings on the Foundation, and it has come up a lot, but I think many people, even in our club, are still unclear on the difference between Int'l in general and the foundation, and the permanent fund and so on....

There is a piece in Rotary - and I am about to display my own aging memory - but the idea is there are four principles of being a good Rotarian. And one of them - Tara - is support the foundation.
Especially since we don't pay lunch fees each week, we all ought to be able to make significant contributions - either to the foundation, or to the club, which can use those funds to support foundation work.
I don't want to seem to be beating a dead horse, since the issue (I am reminded) has been resolved - but I would much rather give someone a Paul Harris Fellowship than "pay" for a membership. I was in a club where the club would, if asked, do a one for three - if the member could pay $750, the club made the additional $250. One club in our District had extra funds one year and awarded a number of PHF at the end of the year.

Like Father John, I strongly believe in supporting the Foundation. When I was a member of the Marble Falls Noon Club, the Club would guarantee a match of up to 200 per member per year as an incentive for the member to become a sustaining member. Because of this incentive, our Club was in the top tier of clubs that had donated significant amounts to the Foundation. Furthermore, I think that when we come up for review in 2010, they will basicallly look at three things: 1. What is the level of fellowship(however this is defined), 2. How many significant maching grants or Exchange students or programs, etc. has the club sponsored, and,3. How much money have the members contributed to the Foundation.

I said it a couple of times as SAA - we don't eat lunch, therefore that money should be an automatic foundation - and in some clubs, that lunch tab can run $20 a week. There's a PHF right there.

Yes of course! I visited a club in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago when my wife and I made a trip there. We paid 24 dollars per person for lunch. I did not really need a make-up, but I feel that we should still maintain a presence, whenever possible, in the analog(terra club) world. We will continue pushing hard for this to happen, and we will keep reminding people of this responsibility.
