FWD e-mail from my best friend Thales Correa Braga Logo, young President of The Rotary Club Santa Maria (Brazil - District
4660 RI).

Thank you.

Freddie

Dear Fellows,
Chers Amis Rotariens,
Cari Rotariani,
Caros Companheiros,

Rotary International played an important role in foundin the
UNO, which will celebrate its 62nd anniversay on October
24th. Since one of Rotary's main goals is promoting understanding and goodwill anomg the nations and given that different cultures getting together in a fraternal atmosphere is a good way to achieve it, the Rotary Club of Santa Maria, RS, D. 4660, Brazil, celebrates, every year, one of the countries or etnic groups that took part in the city's cultural development. In this year's edition, the Club will pay tribute to Israel. The Sixth Party of Nations will be organised in partnership with Santa Maria's Israelite Society and offer a typical menu to welcome all friends of international understanding. We understand it might not be an option honouring our October 27th evening with your company, we gladly welcome any suggestions or messages that you might
send us.

When Federico sends me an invitation to celebrate anything (but especially in Brazil) my travel ears perk up and I listen (although I know that I cannot get away and make that trip). That is probably true of all of us. It might be time and money and other obligations but it is something. A modest suggestion for our international conscience: set a time and date away when we get this kind of notice, plan to eat the kind of food that would honor the culture that is being honored, celebrate together but apart, raise a glass of our finest (could be from that country or just "our finest"), and say, "Shalom" (in this case) together (even if apart). That would be nice. I will certainly do it with you, Federico, and your "young, young, young" friend in Brazil, their Rotary club and the memories of relatives on my Anne's one side of her grandmother's family. "Shalom" to you all on the 27th. That will be right in the middle of a 72-hour Board of Directors meeting of Rotary Global History Fellowship which starts just after midnight on the 26th and ends on midnight on the 28th (needed since it crosses many borders and many cultures with eleven other Rotarians). "Shalom" to them too.

I want to join my fellow Rotarians Joe and Federico during October 27 to celebrate this memorable event. Since I do like wine and since I will not be able to journey to Brazil, I will open one of the wonderful bottles of wine recommended by our sommelier member, Paolo Cosentino D´Elia. Cheers Everybody!

Frank
