On the "My Account" page, I found the following: "To download a Website Users Guide (a work in progress) click here." The work of Larry Levenson. An excellent guide, which stresses the importance of who we are in terms of our full names. (Here's what I found) Account Details IMPORTANT o Edit your name if necessary. o For Online Handle, enter your first and last names. o Edit or add other information as you wish. o You can upload (photos) This work contains other helpful tips worthy of us all to read. I'm trying to learn how to be a good eClub member and this was helpful. Jack Selway Jack Selway, Founder & CEO of RGHF, Rotary Global History, Pueblo, CO, USA

We're only missing a few members who do not identify themselves. Yes, you can figure out who someone is by searching, but, with full names and photos it's easy to see who they are in the posts and meetings. Also, seems as though not too many members post after meeting comments. Other eClub require this or else you fail to qualify for a make up. Perhaps that should be a requirement for the board to vote on. YIRS, Jack Selway Jack Selway, Founder & CEO of RGHF, Rotary Global History, Pueblo, CO, USA

I do not know who their mentors are, but apparently the mentors are also helping out. I was recently reading the PLANNING GUIDE FOR EFFECTIVE ROTARY CLUBS, and it clearly states that the "role of the mentor is to help acquaint the new member with our systems and processes, to be available to answer questions, and generally to support the new member in PARTICIPATING FULLY in our eClub. It does not clearly define what PARTCIPATING FULLY really means, but it is logical that all members are expected(and it does say EXPECTED) to attend meetings faithfully, participate in posting discussions after meetings, posting information concerning eClub issues or about themselves in our forums, donating time and funds to support our projects and the Rotary Foundation, etc, etc. It further states that in the first 2-3 weeks, new members are EXPECTED to b) Access the eClub website weekly to attend meetings. After each meeting, go to the forums and post a message about the meeting. c) Provide a photo of yourself for the club website. It you do not have a digital photo, mail a photograph to the president or secretary. c) It is important to maintain 100% attendance at our meetings. e) Write an introduction about yourself and post it in the forums, etc. Consequently, I believe that the expectations of all members are very well defined. What we need to do is to communicate these expectations to all members and effectively monitor each member´s participation or the lack of it. I also believe that all Board members and are aware of what the PLANNING GUIDE FOR EFFECTIVE CLUBS CONTAINS.

There are others in our new class of members that I would place now into that category and that is refreshing. You do contribute, give your full name so that we know who you are, your picture (which is distinguished looking), and your resume. It is important in our "virtual" eClub that we participate and communicate, then we can figure our "eProjects" for cooperative service. Ain't easy but it can be rewarding! Joe PS We can all use a "user's guide." In life, too.

Is this being followed by all our members? I believe that we should all set an example for all incoming members because if we do not practice what we preach we do not have a right to expect this of others. Is this not required? If it is not required, then we should delete it from the PLANNING GUIDE.

We were both volunteering to help another organization launch their inagural project. In 2007, Joe and I ran into each other again, when Homefront America (I am one of the organization's co-founders) collaborated with several Rotary Clubs from District 5320 on their project called "Operation One Family." For some crazy reason, Joe felt that I would make a good Rotarian. Although the San Juan Capistrano Club is only a hop, jump, and skip from my home, the commitment of attending weekly "physical" meetings made it impossible to join Rotary. Then, Joe mentioned about e-Rotary. I thought "Geez, now that might work." Well, you know the rest. Here I am. I hope I will live up to all of your expectations. I am still learning my way around. As the saying goes "Please be patient with me, God is not done with me yet." Mamie Yong Maywhort

Joe Krueger must have done an excellent job serving as your mentor. I am sure that Joe can make those two items available to you or you could request them from Ryofu who is our president. If for any reason, you cannot get these guides from them, I will be happy to help. If you could send me your address I will be happy to mail you a copy of the PLANNING GUIDE FOR EFFECTIVE ROTARY CLUBS. Please remember that I will be leaving on a cruise of South American starting on February 25 and will not return until March 20. The Website Guide can be found in our own website. Please get in touch with Jack Selway or Larry Levenson concerning that particular guide. Frank Longoria |
