Let's talk about what we could do as an eClub with an Int'l project.

I mean, we have thousands of Rotarians that visit us every year.  That's more than any other club ever (except maybe another eClub.)

So let's do something!

Members or visitors alike - make a suggestion if you'd be so kind.

International Projects: There have been international projects in 2007-2008 and expansion of them is planned for 2008-2009 and beyond for Rotary eClub of the Southwest, USA.

1) As a member of the Service Committee, a Peace Exhibition was assembled from the photographs of Rev. Ryofu Pussel, photographer, Buddhist monk and eClub member. It has been shown already at the two RI Conventions, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, a special showing with an international lecture series at Lone Star College-Kingwood, Texas, and has proposed showings in Mongolia and the Republic of Georgia (as soon as the hostilities cool down there) in 2009-2010. The exhibition has been placed on Rotary Global History Fellowship in 2007 for over one million visitors each year and has been made available to Rotarians globally. Contact for booking the exhibition is its curator: Joe Kagle, RECSWUSA

2) After many discussions and letter writing (emails) Larry Levenson is planning another Peace initiative with RI Peace Scholars. Larry has written to RI and to the Peace scholars to assemble a core group who wish to advertise their peace projects through Rotary eClub of the Southwest, USA. It is hoped that the eClub may also gain some eClub members in the process. This is a project which will begin in 2008-2009. Anyone interested in assisting with this should contact, Larry Levenson, RECSWUSA.

3) The eClub wedded to a land-based Rotary Club in the Turks and Cacos Islands in November 2007, the first time in the history of Rotary that this has happened. This was a project propelled by the work of last year's President Ryofu Pussel. It is still being worked upon as an international partnership (a model for other eClubs). And I am sure that there are other examples that have been ground-breaking for this eClub.

As a member of our Service Committee, I know of these and the African one for Ashley. Are there more initiatives out there that our members do not totally know about?

Yours in service without borders, Joe.

Hey all,

Looking forward to work with Larry in his peace project. That will be a greatinitiative for us.

If we look forward to different projects, my old club has a WCS project called "Educate a Child". One can adopt a child by donating just US$ 50. That will give free education to a child for 1 year.

I am still involved in this project. We have adopted 50 children this year plus we adopted 20 last year. So, total 70 children are getting benefit from Rotary.

Most interesting thing is that the person who adopts a child is sent a picture and all the details of the child. And we expect the donor to communicate with the child and encourage him/her through out the year.

Best regards,

Vimal

Hello to all!

I've written Larry to express my interest in the Peace Scholars Project.  I hope many of us will, and that perhaps there might eventually be a tab in the upper part of the page labeled, "Projects" (on either side of "Groups", perhaps).

I will suggest another program that might be a good option for a future project. Near Colima, Mexico, in a small town called Cofradia, is the headquarters of Project Amigo.  It was started in the 80's by a Rotarian from California.  He and his wife ended up moving down there to help the children of that area with their education and have made amazing things happen.  Find them at www.projectamigo.org.

Thank you Rushton for your excellent suggestion!  I have looked into project amigo many times because I have always been interested in projects in Mexico.  I have also looked into Rotary projects for the Tarahumara.  I believe that Rotary clubs along the Mexican border should commit a lot of their resources to helping on the border and in the interior of Mexico instead of using our resources to support projects that are thousands of miles away.  Working on Rotary projects in Mexico provides us with the opportunity to travel easily to the project sites
