Service Projects: Where do we go from here?
Posted: 3 years ago
We've done a variety of service projects, and we know that each of us has been engaged in community service in our local communities.
Where would you like to see us go in terms of service projects? More international ones? More work with other Rotary Clubs? More acknowledgement of the hours and hours you spend on local projects?
What's working -- and what's NOT working -- for you in the area of service projects?

We talked five years ago about tracking donations from different regions and having an essay contest for winners with the donations from that region going to the winner so Rotarians felt like their donation was regoinally relevant.
I would love to get something like that going, but to see the essays and to us the global reach of eClub.
Trying to get without first giving is as fruitless as trying to reap without having first sown.

I think one avenue of service for us might be supporting innovative online charities. If we are part of a group that is forging a new path with collaborative technologies, we should be able to do the same thing with our service.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I run an internet-based educational charity. What I am thinking about, though, is what Larry mentioned in the intro to this week's meeting - a system for gathering and giving support to Peace Scholars. Let's make it happen!
