Anyone here have any knowledge or experience with this fine South American capitol?
Trying to get without first giving is as fruitless as trying to reap without having first sown.

My wife and I were on a cruise from Valparaiso, Chile around the Horn and on to Punta del Este. From there we wemt
on a tour to Montevideo. Although I did not find Montivedeo as interesting and as nice as Buenos Aires, it is still nice and colonial. We wandered the streets for quite a while, and went to the main plaza. The city seemed safe and sedate. Punta del Este is beautiful! Worth a visit! We also went to a very nice Modern Museum there, and we really enjoyed it. Have fun!

Of all those mentioned, which was your favorite?

Of those mentioned, I would say that Buenos Aires is probably the most intriguing city of all! Of course, I did enjoy Santiago, Chile and Vina del Mar ( I cannot write a tilde with this system, so I have to use an n), but Vina del Mar seems a bit more interesting for the younger generation. In fact, they had a music festival while we were there. That is where they film a lot of the musical TV programs that come out of Chile. The cruise from Valparaiso was fascinating because we stopped at several ports on the long Chilean coast. Southern Chile is absolotutely beautiful! I must say that of all the cities visited, we did enjoy Buenos Aires much more than any other city. It reminded us so much of Madrid (We lived in Madrid for 3 years) with its broad avenues, its museums and the teatro Colon. If you do go, try to stay in the Recoleta area because it is the most European area, and do visit the cemetary where Evita is buried. The other three things I would recommend: 1. Go witness a Tango show. We went to Piazzola, but there are many good ones. 2. Go to San Telmo on a Sunday, and 3. Eat dinner at Cabana las Lilas, at least once.
