I'm putting this in here for a variety of reasons, none of which the few of you who read this actually want to know.
The bottom line is, we have a rating system that has proven fun and effective in other arenas and is sorely underused here.
In almost all areas that you can post something - forum, blog, pictures, and so on - there are five stars. You can click on them an comment on what you did or did not like about that person's contribution.
It's a different way to communicate, and if it were used, it could become a bench mark of activity on the site.
So live a little. Try it out. Seek out your favorite poster and give them a few points and a snarky comment.

I think it is fun, but I am guilty of reading something and then failing to rate. My goal will be rate everything I read.

Rating is great, but be sure to read the comments left by others when they rate you. It's a great source of feedback.

I really think that rating in the past has been very irregular. I think that everybody has to make it a point to use the rating system in order for it to be useful. Or, perhaps, there should be a certain body of "raters" appointed by the president or the board. I have used the system in the past, but I think that very few members have used it consistently. In my opinion, it could be a valuable tool as an incentive to be involved, if it is used properly.
