New website is finally up!!

New website is finally up!!

Posted: 2 years ago

As a web developer myself, it's been an interesting and fun experience working with Kent over the past three months to create this website. He did all the heavy lifting, I did all the complaining! ;)

There are some more things to do, like a a spell-checker so yours truly will appear to be able to spell, add Paypal buttons, setup a private area for you to view the Board meeting minutes and financials, etc. This and more will happen in the coming week or 10 days.

Please add your comments about the site.

I like the blue color much better, but what is up with the black background? It is very difficult to see the text, and some of the text is falling off the page. Great job Larry.

Updating personal information cannot be done, at least not from my end. Can't find the volunteer hours section. Frankly, I liked the old website much better, but all things change and I'll adapt. Also, you'll note that my photo is now lost. No harm done there.

Hi Jack

I'm happy to help resolve any issues you're having. The Volunteer Hours page has been moved into the "members" tab.

I'm curious about your problem of not being able to update any information? Can you tell me what browser you're using? Also, just to cover all bases, your account information link is the "My Account" link at the top, next to the Logout link (visible after login).

Mamie,

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. It has now been resolved.

I suspect you are viewing the website through an older version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. If so, you might want to download the newest version at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx -- it will work a lot better on ALL websites!

:)

I am sure that it will take time for us to get used to the new website. At first glance, I determined that I liked it a whole lot because I believe that it provides opportunities for members to be more interactive. Hopefully, this will add a dimension of communication that did not exist before, and hopefully more and more members will decide to be interactive and will contribute to fellowship. In my opinion, without communication fellowship does not exist, and that has been one of the major criticisms coming from traditional terra clubs. So, either our interaction is dramatically increased or we will continue to suffer from lack of participation. When I gave the website a second look, I noticed some areas which could be improved. I am sure that more will be noticed as we go along. First of all, it is more difficult to log on because it showed advertizing for "go daddy" on several occasions. I had to keep trying until I got the website. Secondly, when it first comes on it has a very brilliant blue background that does not allow for the lettering to show up well, Thirdly, when I clicked on the "membership requirements" there was absolutely nothing stated, Fourthly when I click on "Tools and Resources for New Rotarians, it transfer me back to the present membership list instead of listing the "Tools and Resources." I am sure that things will get better as we learn to navigate the different sections, and I am also sure that we will discover more existing bugs as we go along. I still see it as an improvement over the last website, but the perceived improvement will be negated if our members do not use it in a more interactive way. Good luck!

Frank, why not start the interaction now by posting some news on the home page? To do this, be sure you're logged in, and then scroll to the bottom of the right-hand column on the home page and click Add News. The idea here is to learn more about what's going on in people's lives.

Thanks for all you do for our club!

I'm new to your site, and this is an old topic, but I thought I would chime-in with just a few comments. First of all, it's hard to believe that you guys have been at this for over six years....We need to get the word out, so that more "travelers" will find you and contribute, one way or another.

I am excited about the opportunity to visit again and to explore your entire Web site more completely. I highly recommend that you add such a recommendation to your Web site for the benefit of each of your new visitors, so that we may all make better-informed comments about how you are running your Club and providing such good services and information to your members, as well as to your visitors.

It appears that there are some other Rotary eClubs out there, and I simply wonder about the need for having many of them. I suggest that you may want to make this a topic for future discussion, along with the idea of establishing some sort of vehicle for collaboration between all the existing eClubs.

I hope to return to your site again to complete my personal "research" into eClubs and, hopefully, to make some contributions of my own. Meanwhile, I thank you for all you have already done for the good of the cause, and I wish you continued success in your endeavors.

Lynn,

Thanks for your comments! More and more people are visitng us and joining our club. . . I think the Council on Legislation really helped get the word out about eClubs! By the way, you can find a list of all the eclubs in the world at http://www.recswusa.org/about/32.

As for collaboration, I agree. Unfortunately, as a group, the eClubs aren't there quite yet.

We have discovered that an eClub can be a powerful and very effiective tool for member retention in the District. This one of the key reaspons that a lot of districts are considering forming eClubs at this time.

I suspect these new eClubs will tend to be defined geographically, so that club members in the district can join it and still see their friends and participate in the district and even in their old club when they can. I would be suprised if many districts launch eclubs with a global membership, like ours. We'll see how this goes.

Anyway, look forward to you visiting again!

I did my bio when I joined.  Thought it was up.  Was told today it was not posted.  So just spent about 45 minutes doing it again.  No posting.  This is very frustrating.!
