Urgent earthquake relief in Haiti
Posted: 7 months ago
As you probably heard on the news today, Haiti suffered a magnitude 7 earthquake in the last few hours. Some of the headlines include: "Most of Port-au-Prince is destroyed", "No clear estimate of number of dead", and "U.N. peacekeeper compound destroyed". If you want to learn more, go to www.cnn.com or your favorite online news source.I propose that spend $1000 from our treasury to provide a ShelterBox to Haiti to help a family whose home has been destroyed. This spending would be over-and-above our budget for the year, but I feel this is justified in terms of the immediate need in Haiti. The ShelterBox organization is putting a planeload of boxes together NOW for a flight to Haiti within the next 36 hours. ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that was started by a group of Rotarians in England and delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters. Outside of out budgeted expanses, we have over $25,000 in our treasury. I am asking for your approval to spend $1,000 on a ShelterBox. If you want to know what's in a ShelterBox, read It's all about the box. Please put your comments here.

I think we should.

In the event of disaster, the first reaction is usually to get Emergency Relieve efforts on the ground and provide for critical saveable victims. But greater danger looms ahead IF precautions are not taken NOW to prevent such. Since survival in Haiti has largely been determine by looting and UN handouts. And as looters since to be having their day, with prisons breaking free everywhere. EXTREME care and attention should taken to PROTECT Ammunitions depots and Weapons/arms shops, so that weapons shouldn’t get into wrong hands, if possible soldiers should ask to protect such sites even if ruins. Possession of arms can degenerate a ordinary humanitarian relieve crisis into a VIOLENT CONFLICT. This is because mere possession of weapons by erstwhile "regular" people has the capacity of turning into aggressive and violent people particularly in situation of heighten trauma as currently Haiti.
While handle the immedite, precaution should be taken for the future.
Please get this message across to the uniform on ground in Haiti
