What's the goal?
Posted: 7 months ago
In the first meeting of the month, several newsworthy items were pointed out. As we know, Rotary is LOADED with such and we certainly have the firepower right here in our club to get them out there.
The question is, to what end? What would be the point? We must have a reason for us to be a) effective, b) inspirational to those involved and c) accountable for our efforts.
So, is it to attract new members? Is it to get general public support (and to what end to we want this support)? Is it to win popularity? Is it to qualify for more gifts from Santa?
We really need to decide what we want to do with this PR. With that clearly stated goal (or goals) in mind, I am confident in both our skills and material that we can achieve great success.
Trying to get without first giving is as fruitless as trying to reap without having first sown.
It does not do to leap a 20 ft chasm in two ten foot jumps.

Hello Maureen McKinley here from Las Vegas NV USA. I am your new PR chair. I have two goals. The first is to promote RI so that everyone in the world knows what Rotary is and does. My second goal is to follow up on the above and make people want to join or at least contribute to Rotary.
Accomplishing the first goal altho daunting is twofold. One on one and mass marketing. The first one on one, you can start tomorrow! Simply by wearing your Rotary or Club pin; RI or club shirt when volunteering in your community, knowing quick facts about RI and my club to "impress" any listener. If all million or more of us did this, reaching the goal would be well on its way!
But As Paul Harris said, paraphrasing, You cannot reach millions by talking to one person at a time so we have to "publicize" Rotary by reaching large audiences. At present, the PR committee wants to hold a PolioPlus fundraising race/walk in 2011-2012, probably 2012 spring. Where, every region in which we have E-Club members. Probably in association with another organized race (in the region) to make it a bit easier on us. Dudring 2010-2011 I would like to start a graphic or art contest for our promotional race poster. So if you want to participate in both or either events, reply here at this post or email me at uclachady@aol.com. If you have other ideas to Promote RI or our E-Club email me as well.
