Global eClub project to end polio

Global eClub project to end polio

Posted: 1 year ago

From the Crazy Idea Department:

What if our eClub created a huge, global event. . . like a walk/run to end polio that occurred during the same 24-hr day in all our countries (and more) throughout the world?

eClub members (and others) in each country/city could determine for themselves what the event is and how it gets put together. Local clubs/districts that participate could claim the resulting money for their own contribution to PolioPlus -- funds would not have to flow through our club.

This would involve a huge PR effort, and a lot of organization. I am NOT interested in being the chair of this project. . . just throwing the idea out on the table for our consideration.

An example of what this could look like. . . in San Francisco, on October 24, Rotarians from four Districts and their friends are walking the 1.2 miles of the Golden Gate bridge to help end polio. After the walk there is optional dinner, and then RI President Ray Klinginsmith will illuminate a building with the Rotary End Polio logo. Nice PR for Rotary and the participating clubs!

We could setup a major event like this in every sity that we have members, and other clubs/districts could join in, too. Obviously an event of this scope would take a lot of planning, so this might fit for our next year.

Do you think we could/should take on such a global project? If so, how could we fulfill on the opportunity?

The PR committee and Foundation committee look forward to your thoughts on this.

You know, we have talked about this just about enough.

Let's get some legs under the crazy idea department and make it so. Let's start simple and become complex as necessary.

So, who will chair the Crazy Idea Committee to get it underway?

Trying to get without first giving is as fruitless as trying to reap without having first sown.

I haven't seen much traction for this from the club. Let's talk about it in our Board meeting and see what input we get.

We must fight apathy - the disease no one cares about.

Small bites is what I say!

Onward and upward (it's platitude day in my office.) BOD meeting it is.
