eClub at the New Orleans International Convention
Posted: 2 years ago
This is the place to discuss our participation at the convention. Are we having a booth? What's going to be in the booth? Who will staff it? Who's going to the convention? What Rotaractors are we taking with us?
If you're thinking of going, please be aware that the best discounts on RI pricing expires on December 15th.
Lots to talk about. . . please join in! :)

Hi Larry
Great idea!!It is important for us in 2011 in NO since last year,The COL had voted pro-e club only one month before..so little buzz about it at convention ,in friendship boothes,etc...
In NO ,it must be the year of e clubs!!!
We must influence and lobby the programming team so that they have sessions about e clubs(hope it is not too late)
Did you visit the only e club booth in Montreal?it was Colorado..they claim to be the first/biggest/best of the world....whaoooooooooooo!
Now back to us
Yes we should have a booth
yes i am candidate to be permanent on the booth for a few halves days with others ,since I intend to go to NO(and to arizona before or after!)
we do not need to much investment:just a few posters explaining who we are, number of counteries, continets,
a list of members
a few computers to demonstrate our site(colorado did not do that )
But I propose much more!!!
we should all decide ,all members of RECWUSA,that we will make a very special effort to come..a huge get together
it would become a challenge,..all those coming should write to others hesitatiing to convince them..a global MUST for all of us
and have a one day special for us, say the day before opening ceremony
program could be
dinner first evening(standing,buffet type)
next morning working session(basically to listen to ideas of everyone)
then lunch and fun in the afternoon(a boat ride just between all of us, so that we get to know each other)on a boat ,we are all captive for eachother
to accelerate the learning process BEFORE of who is who, a simple booklet with photos ,presentation ,curriculum, questiosn of the BIO type, and even more questions ,...we would send it to everyone two weekes in advance, to prepare
another idea:evryone bring a small gift (value is not the issue)of his/her own country for evreryone...something typical ,we can ship it in advance somewhere in NO(let's avoid kilos of australian rocks ,or japanese rice or french botttles!!)
of course everybody would wear a big badge(not the usual tiny ones that nobody can read except by kneeling down in front of the chest!)
we could also have a card with all names, and at the end of convention ,eachone should have gathered signature of all members of our e club)...looks boyscoutish,..but it works...
here are some ideas, surely not perfect, but nobody's perfect, especailly in France!!!!!!!
but if we do this ,i bet that it will be a very strong accelartor of cementing our club strongly
Best regards to everybody

John DUgaw suggested also that we have an eCLub dinner together. He has a friend with a "joint" out in the swamps somewhere (??).
Anyway, I'll be seeing John and his wife Ginny next week and will talk to him about this.

Hokay - sign me up on the list to go. Do we know if registrations are transferable if something wonky happens? I don't know where I'm going to be next week, much less in Feb. Oh, wait, I do know where I'll be next week cause I'm not leaving here until NOv 17th. But you know, usually I don't know.

Sent a post to Gerald before I figured out there was a forum. Here in the middle of Navajoland Arizona brain can get dusty. I lived in New Orleans for several years when I was on the faculty of LSU Medical School and know the city really well. I thought perhaps a swamp tour looking at the bayous hopefully with a French speaking guide (Canjun French) feeding alligators marshmallows, and then possibly having dinner at a restaurant or even a crawfish boil on the bayou could be a good time, as long as we have enough beer.
I am a vice chair of the Rotary International Fellowship of Physicians and will probably be the lead person on their booth as I missed Montereal. But I will help and try to be 3 places at once. A little Vodoo spell and I can probably do it.
We are staying at the Holiday Inn (Chateau Le Moyne) in the French Quarter because it is right across the street from where we used to live
Another possibility is a trip to Moscas whichlooks awful and used to be owned by Al Capone's chef and has wonder family style cooking. It is also out in the swamps. I am happy helping the club have a memorable experience, we could even go out and have a party at a Cajun Delicattessen that I know out in the river road. Alligator sausage, fried shrimp etc. I will try to get a handle on the swamp tour.

How about a Swamp tour 30 minutes from NO, chase down alligators, $20 per person for a slow boat more for air boat, slow boat has an alligator on board to snuggle up to those who like alligators. (Little ones are cute) This could be followed by a seafood boil, shrimp, crawfish, alligator sausage, weak fish, cost depending upon current fish pricesetc. Beer, soft drinks and wine, probably well under $100 each with the airboat. A lot less with the slow boat. Interpreter available for 7 languages, not certain what they all are. This is a beautiful area of Louisiana, it is the former lair of Jean Lafite the pirate.

The swamp tour, food, etc sounds like a blast, John!! I'd be in favor of slow boat. . . but maybe we have enough people that we could take both out??
It would be great to learn a little about the Cajun culture in Louisiana. . . it's completely unique.
Thanks for helping us pull this together!

hey John ,
sounds good
to be honest with you ,my greatest fear was to get dry...but it seems there are some beers down there ,..so...a firednly place
as far as alligators are concerned, my preference goes for watching them ..inside sausages !much safier
ok ,things are preparing welle thanks to Larry who launched this forum
some of us will come from far away, far east, south america, europe,....why don't we plan all of us to arrive friday end afternoon and keep friday nite for a dinner and saturday morning+lunch for our e club meeting??we would be back end of afternoon saturday for other arrangements that we will all have for sure..
If that is ok for most, let's fix it firm and everybody could then plan accordingly planes and hotels..or is that a bad idea??
best regards to all, enjoy this week(well ,John you are still sleeping at the time I write!!!!)

I won't arrive until Saturday but will stay for 8-9 days. Right now tour times are open and we have plenty of time to organize this. Louisiana is not dry, they have drive through Bars, usually serving frozen dacqueries. (a sweetened lime flavor drink with rum) Drink and drive is their motto, Walk and drink, just drink and do nothing as long as you don't hurt anyone. Driving for the sober ones can be interesting.
I do live on the Navajo Indian Nation in Arizona which is dry--no alcohol sold legally--but WalMart in Winslow Arizona has a very nice Malbec wine from Argentina on sale right now for $3.00. We have to drive 120 miles to get a legal drink and to buy wine but it is a pretty drive through the painted desert.
Oh, If we have people who do not eat shellfish or sausage then beef burgers are a good alternative and no problem. Good restaurant nearby, family owned Cajun cooking. (Des Families) Cajun is the Louisiana word for Acadian, refugees from the British take over of French colony of LaAcadie in Nova Scotia in 1755 who settled in Louisiana. My ancestors were there, but not in Louisiana, I am considered Cajun in Louisiana. (also called Coon-***)
Had surprise lunch today from neighbor who cooked roasted lambs head. It was very good. Special Navajo Indian meal.
