Hi Woody, you were with Ivan, in ROTI, for many years. A fine person, and sadly missed. He was planning to be with RGHF members, in Bavaria, this October.

He was 63...Too young for dying! Like all these young soldiers who die a hero's death far from their home and their family...I want to share something with you: 3 weeks ago, I was in Denver airport...at the arrivals....with about fifty people...and I noticed a woman holding an american flag, she was with a twelve year old boy. Suddenly, she shouted and rushed forward.....a soldier, with a battledress just arrived...and all three of them-with the kid- they embraced each other for a long time...and all the people applauded spontaneously! And several women cried....It was very touching; we could guess that the soldier came back from Afghanistan after a very long separation...On my fly to Houston, an american soldier wearing his uniform was seated near somebody, but the plane was not full...so the flight attendant gave him another seat, alone...
And on the TV I watched many short programmes where the soldiers were presented like heroes...And as often as I am in USA...there is a Veterans Day!
And I cannot help thinking that in France, the soldiers, officers or not are not liked by french people...They even are adviced not to wear their uniform when they take a subway...or when they are going to work, not to seem provoking people!
Paradoxically...I attended a air show, this weekend, in the east of France...and 30 000 people were happy to see the fighters...( so wonderful Rafale!!!The F 18 is not too bad, either!)
French people are not patriotic...I like the american patriotism...what about the other people? German? Italian? mexican? australian, Japanese, italian?
Ivan was too young...That is sad!
