The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.  Let us remind ourselves of this test and use it throughout our daily lives.

Of the things we think, say or do:

1.  Is it the TRUTH?

2.  Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.  Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The summer that I joined Rotary, the Smithsonian Institution’s Polio Exhibit was installed in the Georgia Hall – the main building of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute.  As part of the ribbon cutting ceremonies, that Rotary District announced the launch of the Paul Harris Society.  Knowing the power of The Rotary Foundation, Marj and I join the Society to support our Foundation.

Rotary International designates November as The Rotary Foundation (TRF) Month.   RI asks that every Rotarian, if able, give 100 USD to the annual fund of The Rotary Foundation.  This is the Every Rotarian Every Year program which provides consistent support for our work in the world.  TRF provides to us the financial tool kits we need to change the world.  This annual giving program focuses on to the Annual Fund which in turn provides for Global and District Grants.  After 3 years 50% of the contributions return to the local districts for their own programs and grants.  This is how we get big stuff done, internationally and locally.

Shuddha Jal

RC Jalna Midtown President Anup Karwa (with his hand on the pump), President-elect Dinesh Chhajed (to his right) and Assistant Governor Kishor Punjabi (extreme right) inaugurate Project Taral in a school.

Ranjani Vaidya makes khichdi for the children in the Zilla Parishad primary school in Gundewadi, about 10 km from Jalna, a town in Maharashtra famous for making quality seeds. The distance might be short, but a part of the ride is rickety as the road is pothole ridden. About 150 students, almost all children of labourers — agricultural and industrial — study here. Her forthright manner of speaking, the confidence she displays while answering your questions prompts me to advise her to contest for the next panchayat elections.

Our meeting this week will be the first online of the Rotary year and will be a joint meeting with our sister eClub in the District, the Rotary E-Club of Arizona.  District Governor Nancy Van Pelt will be sharing her thoughts for Rotary District 5495.

DG Nancy believes that the magic of Rotary is our capacity to bring together individuals with common interests and shared values, offering them a way to pool their talents and resources to benefit a greater good.  She places great value on capacity-building and leadership development.  Her visit is your opportunity to see Nancy’s commitment to using her vocational skills to support Rotary International and the Clubs in Rotary District 5495.

As a Rotary Club that meets online, we are unable depend on the financial support from a single local community for our service projects.  As a result, weekly donations from our members and visiting Rotarians is our primary fundraiser.  From your donations, the Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA can support Rotary initiated service projects around the world.  In the spirit of Rotarian service, we ask that you make a donation.  If you are a visiting Rotarian doing a make-up, we ask that you consider an amount that be equal to your meal price at your regular Rotary meeting.
