The eye-catching Salvia Patens, commonly known as Gentian Sage.  This elegant, vertical, tuberous perennial with maybe the deepest and purest blue flowers in the world of plants.  Because it is native to central Mexico, the gentian sage is sensitive to hard frost and treated as an annual in cooler zones.  The Irish gardener and journalist, William Robinson, made this plant popular.
